Nyack, N.Y., December 3, 2024 – Montefiore Nyack Hospital hosted a Thanksgiving produce distribution event in support of local organizations on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 in Nyack. The annual Healthy Holiday Fresh Produce Distribution supplements the many local turkey giveaways with fresh produce to help families have healthier Thanksgiving meals. Volunteers sorted and packaged 10,000 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables into 1,000 reusable tote bags for local not-for-profits to deliver to those in need in Rockland County. Each bag of produce was enough to feed a family of four and supply nutrient-rich vegetables for their Thanksgiving celebration. The free produce included carrots, onions, greens, yams and root vegetables, such as yuca and plantains.
The local community organizations that received these bags included Head Start Nyack; Nyack Center; BOCES Family Resource Center; Finkelstein Memorial Library; Haverstraw Community Center; The Jacobs Family Pride Wellness Center; Nyack Senior Center; Rockland County Department of Health; Rockland Council on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependence; Volunteer Counseling Services; and West Haverstraw Elementary School.
This is the third year that Montefiore Nyack Hospital participated in Montefiore Health System’s annual tradition.
