Nyack, N.Y., June 25, 2026 – Montefiore Nyack Hospital has been accepted into the ICU Centers of Excellence program from the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). Participation in this program reflects Montefiore Nyack’s commitment to continuous improvement, team-based care, and better outcomes for critically ill and injured patients.
Through the program, ICU teams at Montefiore Nyack Hospital will join a national community of ICUs working to strengthen care at the bedside through expert-developed education, practical tools, ICU Liberation coaching, and data-driven support. Participants have the opportunity to earn gold, silver, or bronze ICU Centers of Excellence designations that demonstrate their success and commitment.
It is an honor to be accepted into the revered ICU Centers of Excellence program,
said Besher Kabak, MD, FCCP, ICU medical director at Montefiore Nyack Hospital. Our team looks forward to enhancing our expertise so we can continue to advance care and improve outcomes for all our patients.
ICU Liberation is a global initiative led by SCCM to improve patient recovery and long-term outcomes after critical illness. It is built around the evidence-based ICU Liberation (A-F) Bundle, which promotes pain management, wakefulness, mobility, delirium prevention, and family engagement to help patients recover more effectively.
For patients and families, the program is designed to support what matters most in the ICU: consistent, compassionate, and team-based care when every decision matters. For clinicians, it provides structure, tools, and expert support to strengthen daily practice. For hospital and healthcare system leaders, participation demonstrates a commitment to measurable quality improvement and sustained critical care excellence.
