Healthgrades, a leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, evaluated hospital performance for approximately 4,500 hospitals
Nyack, N.Y., March 19, 2025 – Montefiore Nyack Hospital has been recognized as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention in 2025 by Healthgrades. The Coronary Intervention Excellence Award honors hospitals with excellent clinical outcomes in coronary intervention procedures, including angioplasty with stent placement.
Coronary artery disease (CAD), the most prevalent form of heart disease, is characterized by the narrowing of the arteries that supply blood to the heart. In CAD, the coronary arteries become narrow and stiff due to inflammation and atherosclerosis, commonly known as plaque buildup from cholesterol and other substances. As the plaque accumulates, it restricts blood flow through the artery. Without sufficient blood flow, the heart muscle cannot receive the oxygen it needs to function effectively.
This can ultimately result in angina (chest pain), arrhythmias, heart failure, and heart attack. CAD is treated through angioplasty, a procedure aimed at widening or opening a blocked or narrowed artery to restore normal blood flow through the affected arteries.
Healthgrades, a leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians, hospitals, and healthcare providers, analyzes which hospitals provide superior quality care by assessing the performance of approximately 4,500 hospitals using objective quality measures including clinical outcomes, patient safety, and patient experience. Montefiore Nyack Hospital was evaluated in four of the five procedures, which include coronary interventional procedures, heart attack, heart failure, and either coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery or valve surgery. Healthgrades utilizes Medicare inpatient data from the Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) file compiled by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
The Coronary Intervention Excellence Award is based on the average in-hospital mortality and in-hospital mortality z-scores derived from MedPAR data.*
At Montefiore Nyack Hospital, board-certified specialists use cardiac catheterization to perform diagnostic tests and provide a variety of treatments, including implanting pacemakers, inserting stents, removing blood clots in the lungs and treating heart blockages.
