Verification as Surgical Quality Partner from American College of Surgeons on Trauma

Montefiore Nyack Hospital is proud to announce its Level III Verified Trauma Center has received the prestigious Surgical Quality Partner designation from the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

As an ACS-verified trauma center, Montefiore Nyack Hospital earned the distinction of an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. Being a Surgical Quality Partner signifies the Hospital’s dedication to consistently improving procedures and approaches while maintaining a critical eye on the process at every step. The Surgical Quality Partner designation lets patients know Montefiore Nyack Hospital is dedicated to quality and relentless self-improvement and has been verified or accredited by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Patients can trust that the care they receive at Surgical Quality Partner hospitals adheres to the most rigorous standards in surgical quality.”

“This designation by the American College of Surgeons is a huge honor because it is a testament that our surgical team, led by Aleksandr Rakhlin, MD, FACS, Trauma Program Medical Director, is providing the highest possible level of surgical care,” said Anthony Matejicka, DO, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Montefiore Nyack Hospital. “Of note, patients cared for in ACS-verified trauma centers have a lower risk of death and improved quality of life compared with patients in non-verified centers.”

The ACS Trauma Verification, Review, and Consultation (VRC) Program helps hospitals to evaluate and improve their trauma care. It provides an objective, external review of a trauma center’s resources and performance. A team of trauma experts completes a site review of the hospital. The team assesses relevant components of the program including their regional role(s), the availability of physical and health human resources, policies, patient care protocols, and the hospital’s quality improvement processes.

“The American College of Surgeons’ reviewers, who are nationally recognized trauma surgeons, evaluated our trauma program and looked at our outcomes,” Dr. Rakhlin said. “They made sure our team of trauma surgeons is prepared, meets the standards for performance, and is constantly striving to better care for our patients by a rigorous performance improvement process.”

“ACS Quality programs are grounded in more than a century of experience and participation is an important measure of a hospital’s surgical quality. As an ACS Surgical Quality Partner, Montefiore Nyack Hospital has shown a commitment to providing the best possible patient care, evaluating that care in a rigorous fashion, and dedicating themselves to continuous self-improvement,” said ACS Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer Patricia L. Turner, MD, MBA, FACS.

Montefiore Nyack Hospital is one of 25 hospitals internationally and one of only three in New York State that met rigorous external standards confirmed by an outside verification process.
