The Food & Drug Allergy Desensitization Program at Montefiore Nyack Hospital provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for patients who experience adverse reactions to food or drugs. The program is run by expert allergy and immunology specialists in a safe and closely monitored environment.
One of the few drug allergy programs of its kind in the country, the Food & Drug Allergy Desensitization Program at Montefiore Nyack Hospital is the only program in the Rockland, Westchester and Bergen County areas. Montefiore Nyack Hospital established the first aspirin desensitization program in the Northeast and expanded to include evaluation and desensitization to other drugs, including chemotherapy and antibiotics, and to foods, such as peanuts.
Helping Patients Receive Needed Treatment
If you’re allergic to medicine necessary to treat your illness and there’s no suitable alternative, our expert team will conduct a comprehensive allergy evaluation and possible drug desensitization to help you tolerate the needed medication.
Desensitization involves taking the drug or food in small, increasing amounts until you can tolerate the needed dose safely. An allergy and immunology specialist will manage your treatment with a dedicated nurse in a closely monitored, intensive-care setting.
