The Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support Program (DSMES) of Montefiore Nyack Hospital has earned a three-year accreditation from the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES).

As the only organization dedicated solely to diabetes education, ADCES certification is the highest level of recognition that a diabetes management program can attain. The Diabetes Education Accreditation Program (DEAP) certification highlights Montefiore Nyack Hospital’s commitment to providing exceptional care management programs to individuals living with diabetes.

It’s common – but not inevitable – for men to develop difficulty urinating as they get older. This is often due to an enlarged prostate, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). There are steps men can take to keep their prostate and bladder healthy as they age, says Nikhil Gupta, M.D., a board-certified urologist at Advanced Urology Centers of New York (AUCNY), an affiliate of Solaris Health, one of the nation’s leading urologic providers, practicing in West Nyack, located in Rockland County.

Montefiore Nyack Hospital will offer a Diabetes Prevention Program for adults 18 or older who have prediabetes or are at risk for type 2 diabetes. Recruitment is underway for interested participants who meet the eligibility criteria for this free program. Participants will meet once a week with a trained lifestyle coach from the Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness Department to improve their food choices, increase physical activity and learn coping skills to promote weight loss and reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

An estimated 10% of women of childbearing age have a health condition known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).  Women with PCOS have hormonal imbalances and metabolism problems that may affect their overall health, appearance and fertility. PCOS is linked to other health problems, including prediabetes and diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol, depression and anxiety, and endometrial cancer.
